Wednesday is traditionally Boiled Egg Day and this wednesday, February 23, Susan followed the long practiced event. Many years ago in1996, when I had my first heart attack, I was told that one egg a week was all the I must eat and it must not be cooked with grease, so Dorothy had set Wednesday as that day and boiled the method. Of course, as time passed, health authorities decided eggs were not so bad for people, but we had developed the habit, and kept it up. Susan likes to follow much of what of her mother did, with methods of cooking and regular timing of meals.
This morning Susan put the egg in the water before it had reached a full boiling level and then quickly went to take care of something else. She cooked it the prescribed length of time but when I cracked the shell it was still quite runny, so Susan put it in the micro-wave to finish cooking. When she brought it back, I found the white of the egg quite rubbery and the yoke well sealed over. Never the less preparing to eat my breakfast I gave it a little puncture with my knife. Amazingly this caused a loud explosion and granular egg yoke blew into my face, onto my clothing and all over the kitchen. I ate what was left of it with toast as usual, while Susan wiped up what she could from the table, got me a clean sweater and got out the vacuum to clean floor and furniture. Luckily, the yoke was well cooked so it did not stick too much. Who would have thought that when the shell was cracked and juice ready to run out, that recooking in the micro-wave, it would seal itself over to make such a bomb?

Note from Sue: Lesson learned. 30 seconds is too long to finish an undercooked egg.
